French Woman’s First-Ever Spacewalk Set for August 18
WorldAugust 17, 2026. United States.
NASA astronaut Anil Menon and ESA (European Space Agency) astronaut Sophie Adenot will conduct a roughly six-and-a-half-hour spacewalk from the International Space Station (ISS) on Tuesday, August 18. It will be the 97th U.S. spacewalk and is intended to replace an important communications antenna used for high-rate data links with Earth.
With her participation in this spacewalk, Adenot will become the first French woman ever to conduct a spacewalk. Adenot, who has been living aboard the ISS since February, is also only the second French woman to travel to space, after Claudie Haigneré.
This is the second of three spacewalks planned for August, with remaining tasks including upgrading solar arrays and connecting power and data cables.
