Shan State Women’s Affairs Federation Patron Urges Trainees to Become Successful Small Business Owners

Shan State Women’s Affairs Federation Patron Daw Nan Soe Soe Htwe urged trainees to make effective use of the skills and opportunities gained from a sewing technology training course — opened to create small-scale production enterprises and increase the income of rural families — to establish their own businesses and become successful small business owners.

The sewing training course opening ceremony was held at 9 a.m. today, August 5, at the Pa-O National Multi-Sector Development center in Kankyi ward, Taunggyi.

In her opening remarks, Patron Daw Nan Soe Soe Htwe said the sewing training course was being provided to increase the income of rural families and encourage the emergence of small-scale cottage industries.

She instructed trainees to study the cost and market value of each garment they sew and strive to produce marketable designs, to use their training as a foundation for their own creative work, and to put the skills gained into practical use.

Shan State Small and Cottage Industries Department State Officer U Soe Naing Htoo then explained the training course, distributed teaching materials, and after a group photo, officials met warmly with trainees and offered words of encouragement.

The course will teach machine operation, basic stitching, pattern-drafting and various garment-making methods over 45 days total — a one-month basic course plus a 15-day refresher — with 30 percent theory and 70 percent practical training.

The opening ceremony was attended by Hluttaw representatives, members of the Shan State Women’s Affairs Federation, senior departmental officials, staff, project team leaders and members, and trainees.
